It’s Australia Day – time to celebrate our beautiful country. Before we don our thongs and chuck a prawn on the barbie, we thought we’d take a moment to celebrate the fact that DECO is 100% Australian made, owned and operated with our story so far. 

Born in 2004, the Doonan family started “DECO” in a tiny town called Braemar in the New South Wales Southern Highlands. Initially the team consisted of about 5 employees, and Director Ross Doonan relished being a part of the local community by working with other businesses in the area.

Using Australia's first photo imaging machine, we paved the path for sublimation technology on aluminium and consistently remained pioneers in the industry. As other woodgrain finishes on metal gradually appeared on the market, we always stayed at the forefront by introducing the natural textured finish and extending the range of finishes to keep up with trends to what is now 24 different timber finishes. 

Over the years, DECO developed a broad network of Australian distributors right across the country – all the way to Perth, Darwin and Far North Queensland. We sourced a reliable supply of Australian aluminium from Capral Aluminium, and found an Australian owned and operated powder coater in Vertikote.

As business expanded, Deco moved into bigger premises in Moorebank, in Sydney’s South Western suburbs. The team has grown to about 35 staff drawn from the local area, and even some team members who still make the commute from the Southern Highlands, reflecting their passion for the business. 

These days DECO is co-owned by Australian company Nepean Engineering and is still driven to make our range available Australia-wide.
