DECO’s Top 5 Trends for 2019

Following the growing appreciation of textures, natural finishes and raw materials, the timber-look is set to continue its design status as a key trend in 2019. Here are some top timber-look design and building trends we expect to see this year.

1. Feature walls, ceilings and garage doors with 2-piece click on battens

Timber batten features are the latest trend for achieving great surface texture on a building. DecoBatten, DECO’s timber-look batten and beam, will allow you to achieve effortless architectural style with the natural appearance of timber. The newly launched 2-piece Click On battens can be used for easily creating feature walls, ceilings or even garage doors with a simple click-on system. Add warmth and a contemporary feel to any space by creating eye-catching and impressive vertical or horizontal patterns.

2. Cladded ceilings

The timber ceiling trend remains strong. It's visually appealing and creates comfort and warmth, as well as the ability to really distinguish and develop a space.

You can now enjoy a timber ceiling with ease by using the ultimate cladding system  –  DecoClad. The colours and textures of Super Durable™ DecoWood create an environment of warmth and style that a natural timber would achieve.

DecoClad is not only beautiful to look at, it is also effortless to install and maintain. Click here for more information on DecoClad.

3. 2019 is set to be creative – mix and match timber finishes

Follow the lead of great architects who mix and match all kinds of different timber finishes. A creative mix of looks, styles and materials will be key in 2019 to achieve aesthetic design.

Mix multiple timber finishes to complement each other or create a gradient of diverse woodgrain shades to imitate different patterns. You can also throw plain colour fittings into the mix –  warm red or brown powder coated battens, for example, placed in between timber-look battens, may enhance the warm, reddish timber tones of the woodgrain finish.

Don’t be scared to combine colours to achieve the atmosphere and aesthetic you desire, from vibrant colour palettes which promote the energy of a business’s brand to softer, more subtle colour combinations which create a sense of calm and relaxation in a home. Colour variation provides an array of endless possibilities for making your design unique, while making full use of an expansive colour range and experimenting with combinations.

4. Shapes matter – using multiple sized products for a unique design

Contemporary design is only limited by imagination. This year we expect to see more unique looks with the use of multiple size profiles and extrusions.

Architects are already using battens in varying lengths and widths to achieve captivating design features. We expect this to grow in popularity throughout the year, especially with the launch of DecoBatten’s new dome and angular battens, which offer the chance to mix and match shapes like never before. Use an angle back to back, split a dome with a square, or utilise different size rectangles to create a stunning effect with light and shadow.

5. Sustainable architectural products

The growing preference for natural materials is continuing the rise of environmentally friendly buildings, passive designs and low VOC product installations. This is a trend that will continue to be relevant for 2019 and the decades to come.

Sustainability is now a fundamental part of the building design and construction industry and is causing them to rethink the design elements of their projects. Strong, durable and easily recycled aluminium provides a sustainable alternative to timber, wood composites and PVC building products, and will be a popular choice for future projects.
