Hunter Sports High School underwent a major $30 million redevelopment to better accommodate the needs of their 800 students and allow for contemporary teaching practices with new and improved 21st century learning spaces.

The new state-of-the-art facility includes classrooms, laboratories, workshops, a library, canteen and sport and training areas. Architects Hansen Yuncken and EJE Architecture designed the school to replicate a sporting venue with stadium-like building characteristics whilst incorporating the school's values and cultural aspects.

Hunter Sports High School showcases a variety of different cladding types and building materials, displaying a mix of contemporary colours and bold designs. To add a warm, natural touch to the building's design, DecoClad Shadowline cladding finished in DecoWood® Natural Curly Birch was installed across the office building and on the soffit lining of the outdoor amphitheatre, creating a seamless natural element throughout the school grounds.

Matching DecoBatten and DecoSlat were also utilised across the balconies to create a screen for sunshade whilst adding a contemporary aesthetic that complements the buildings design.

DECO's aluminium products coated with a Super Durable™ DecoWood® finish were found to be an ideal alternative to timber for this project. Not only was the finish identical to real timber, but the non-combustible solid aluminium products provided a safe alternative for an educational environment that is virtually maintenance-free.
