The North Sydney Council has been working to create quality, usable public spaces within the area. The Miller Street Pop-Up Plaza was designed to be a temporary outdoor oasis, featuring outdoor dining areas, seating and greenery, for the public to enjoy.

The landscape design featured neutral colours such as whites and browns, to complement the greenery, pot plants and planter boxes included in the design, to create a relaxing, natural pedestrian space.

When it came to choosing a decking, it was important not only to choose a product that complemented the natural surroundings and landscape design, but one that could also withstand frequent foot traffic and wear from tables and chairs.

DecoDeck® was chosen for its durability, wear resistance and resistance to scuffs and scratches. This made it the ideal product for a public space with high volumes of foot traffic and movement of chairs and tables for outdoor dining. DecoDeck®'s heat resistance also made it suitable for a public outdoor space. Made from aluminium - which conducts heat effectively - the decking boards do not overheat, preventing heat from radiating through the boards and increasing the temperature of the space.

DecoDeck®'s natural beauty also made it an ideal choice. Unlike composite products on the market, DecoDeck®'s sublimated, timber-look finish provided a realistic, natural look, which paired well with the greenery of the design. The Casuarina™ finish was chosen for its classic natural, neutral colouring, which complemented the whites and browns of the design for a cohesive aesthetic.

Installers Shamrock Developments
were impressed by the ease and efficiency of installation that DecoDeck® allowed, helping them complete the project quickly and with minimal issue. A large number of cuts were required to reduce the boards to size, which could be completed fast without issue. With an efficient fixing system, that could be screwed down to a steel subframe quickly and easily without issue, DecoDeck® proved extremely install-friendly, and could be installed over a vast 180 square metres in just two days.

The result was a hardwearing, beautiful decking that enhanced the pop up plaza and helped make it a relaxing, enjoyable space for the public.
