DECO's premium DecoWood® battens were a showstopper on the Block 2020, wowing the judges and creating the perfect statement piece for House Four's backyard design.

WA-based Luke and Jasmin, contestants on the Channel 9 hit renovation series The Block, aimed to create a standout statement feature for the backyard of their 1910s house. Situated in close proximity to Brighton Beach, the house was prone to the effects of salt spray, moisture and harsh sunlight - and Luke and Jasmin sought products that would not only withstand the coastal environment, but complement the relaxed coastal theme they were working into their house design.

The WA team chose to create an impressive, curved outdoor daybed, designed by Cos Design and featuring Zen elements to create a retreat-style feature where homeowners could relax after a long day.

DECO's new 25mm QuickClick™ DecoBattens in DecoWood®'s Natural Curly Birch finish were used to line the daybed, accentuating the feature's classic coastal appearance. DecoWood®, with its realistic, marine grade, Super Durable™ timber-look finish, was the perfect product to feature in the architectural design statement. A low-maintenance woodgrain finish that never needs painting or staining, it proved the ideal solution to achieving a timber-look aesthetic without being affected by the elements.

The finished design was touted as "mind-blowing" by the Block Judges, who were dazzled by the impressive feature. Renowned interior designer Shayna Blaze complimented the daybed, finding the battens surprisingly comfortable to sit on, while judge Neil Whitaker described the statement piece as "unforgettable".
