Wet Blasting Technical Information

The Vapour Blasting Process

The wet blasting process is very similar to the process used for dry abrasive blasting, although the abrasive is propelled toward the surface of the metal using a slurry of water rather than high-pressure air. The process can vary slightly depending on the abrasive used. DECO uses automated machinery to wet blast large orders.

  • First, any holes on the part are masked or plugged
  • The abrasive particles are propelled towards the part in a stream pf high pressure water, using either a Water Injection Nozzle (WIN), Halo Nozzle, or inside a blasting chamber.
  • As the abrasive impacts the hard surface of the metal, the force of the impact blasts away the surface coating
  • The part is dried to prevent corrosion from the water. This MUST be done prior to adding another treatment or protective coating

Types of Wet Abrasive Blasting

  • Wet Bead Blasting: For a smooth peened finish, glass beads similar to those used in dry bead blasting are propelled against the metal.
  • Wet Soda Blasting: Soda is a softer, single abrasive generally used in instances where it is not necessary to recycle the slurry. It is often used special applications and for larger parts such as car and ship bodies.
  • Wet Aluminium Oxide Blasting: Generally used to clean, polish and create an anti-slip surface on metal

Quality Testing, Standards and Compliance

All DECO Industrial products are subjected to testing in our onsite Quality Testing lab. We ensure every DECO Industrial product and process meets Australian Standards, and does its job satisfactorily and to specifications.

AS/NZS ISO 9001:2015

DECO Industrial is accredited as complying fully with AS ISO 9001: 2015. This standard ensures products and processes meet consumer needs while retaining compliance with Australian laws and regulations. We are compliant with AS/NZS ISO 9001: 2015 for slurry peening and mechanical finishings.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification

This certification demonstrates that a business and its processes are environmentally friendly and do not negatively impact the environment due to toxic or chemical waste products, and comply with Australian environmental laws. DECO Industrial are currently undergoing the certification process for this standard.
